My Presidential Speech

Yay! Just a moment ago, I was scanning the envelopes under my bed and found this composition written last 25th July 2006. This is back when I was in fourth year. Sir Josh, our Social Studies instructor, asked us to write a speech. This speech is the piece we are to deliver assuming we will run as the President of the Philippines. I call it the presidential speech. I do not know if this is the right term really. Just correct me if I'm wrong. Well, much of the specified concerns mentioned in this piece were actually influenced by the issues of the country faced during that time. Well then, here it goes.

Citizen of the Philippines, greetings to all. Our motherland is now suffering from political, economic, educational and environmental turmoil. Our government is becoming more corrupt and not united leading to the organization of opposition groups and worst, it has become the trademark of Philippine government. Fugitive are increasing in numbers caused by extreme poverty making crimes here and there. Terrorists are being tremendously dangerous. The proliferation of unemployment brings the people into great poverty. Our economic crises have contributed its part on the recent mass poverty. The low quality and standard of education particularly in public schools results to a poor literacy rate and one major factor that affects this certain phenomenon is the improper budgeting of officials. Our environment is running uncontrollably polluted. And now, I, Haifa Carina Superioridad Baluyos, am standing here in front of you to run as the highest executive leader of the state to help everything in proper order. Let us make our motherland be proud of her self.
To graduate was my goal and be successful was my dream. All of these were achieved despite our financial difficulties. Financial matters upset me but it didn’t hinder me from achieving my dreams. I came from a broken family but the thought of such idea even built a stronger and competitive me. Even if huge problems come in my path, I could always get my way through the encouragement and motivation of the people around me.

We all have experienced the common problem and we all could surpass these things like how we dealt with the personal ones. Sometimes the encouragement and motivation of the people around us helps a lot in facing difficulties. In this matter, le’s do the same thing for them. Let our minds pause for a while and take the bigger picture of our motherland. Every honor that a Filipino brings tot his nation would make the media focus on the matter which some officials took it as a privilege to take amounts of money from the nation. And every single cent of the stolen money results to the increasing population of poor people living in squatter areas and worst, to the city highways or under the bridge. Imagine the children day and night in the streets trying to beg for money wherein suppose to be they are in school studying. And who’s to blame for such phenomenon? Logically, it’s the government. And who works the government? Definitley the leaders. And so, we could conclude that officials are responsible for the suffering of our nation. Isn’t it ironic? Doing the opposite of what you are supposed to do. Let us not be blind of such truth and let us not be deaf of such fact. Let us break that point of view which has traditionally been a cycle. We are part of this family and we all have responsibilities of taking concern with each other. Let us hear what everybody says. Let us see what everybody wants us to see. All of us people are given the privilege to possess a pair of eyes and ears by God and let us use it in its proper and effective way and for the good of everyone.
“Politics has always been dirty.” It sound like more of a cliché but lat us make and establish an administration touched with discipline and unselfishness. And as according to the former president Ramon Magsaysay, “Leadership by example.”, leaders must show the proper characters and be an example to the reforms and programs they are capable of establishing.

These are the following programs and reforms I am willing to establish in my presidency; the improvement of our foreign relations to increase the investors in our country and to give jobs to the unemployed people, and also to create strong mutual linkages with other countries. I will remove the pork barrel to prevent a huge possibility for the misuse of the money of the people and of the nation. We shall focus our attention on education; build more public schools especially to rural areas and distribute quality, up-to-date and standardized books for free. We shall produce more charity works. The strict and active functioning of our national police must be give due attention. We will create organizations concerned with the environment. We will build more infrastructures. Give land tot the landless. Our government will have a strict and systematized process concerning the audit of the money of the citizens. If one is proved to commit a crime relating with the abuse of his power, he shall be removed from his position immediately.

All of these are the reforms of my administration but our administration will see, hear and move in response to these manifestations. It is, indeed, easy to say but we will make it easy to finish if we will work hand in hand with a true and proud Filipino heart. Let us build a strong nation through unity. Thank you very much and Mabuhay.
