CDOtaku Cosplay Photoshoot

Last October 25 2008, CDOtaku had a cosplay photoshoot in Hanya’s place at Xavier Estates. There were 18 cosplayers present. Some cosplayers I could recall were of Ragnarok Online, Prince of Tennis, The Gazette, ANBUs of Naruto, Tomoyo of Card Captor Sakura and Foster’s Home for Imaginary Friends. The official photographer was Tensai.

I had so much fun that day especially during preparation because we tried all sorts of experiments with our costume particularly that of Kim’s.

I still don’t have the complete photos by Tensai but he gave me one. It’s the one below. Tenkyu tens!--,)

The photos below were shot by Jomar (JARMS is his CDOtaku nickname) who brought his own digital camera.

The Crime

One person, your friend, tells you he has something to give you. You are close friends. His mother knows it. Days, weeks, months passed. One moment, he feels being cornered by one of his actions. He asks a second of your time then tells you he lied to his mother that he’ll buy you something but it was intended for another person, also a friend of yours, to whom he asks for pleasure in censored ways. This person, your friend, asks you a favor that if his mother asks, you’ll tell her you had received it. He doesn’t know the idea alone pains you already. You act fine as if it doesn’t matter. You reflect and realize everything matters.

Your existence as his friend is being exploited. This is no doubt a crime.

My point is one should not entitle others to receive something from him if he is not serious about it. It’ll only cause his titled receiver pain for expecting for nothing.

LESSON LEARNED: When someone entitles you to receive something from them. DON’T BELIEVE IT but act as if you believe in it. Don’t overdo the acting though. Now I know and understand why we should not make others expect anything if possible. Surprises are preferable. At least, we don’t end up hurting others because of unsatisfied expectations.

feel like expiring...

I’m done with my assignments. I don’t want to study Physics. I’m frustrated. I’m disappointed. I hate a number of people. I want vengeance. I’m hurt. I feel like crying. I need someone to talk to. I’m alone. I’m falling apart.

Such situations come where you’ve been hurt by a number of people and you want to complain for their unreasonable excuses, hurt in return for their insensitive principles, and cry for being stacked with frustrations at once. You need someone to talk to but you believe this is you’re business and that no one really cares about it. In your circle, others depend on you to listen and help them – you are the listener and the adviser. But it is different the other way around. You don’t trust any one who could listen to you and help you as you do to them. No one can help you but yourself. No one can listen to you but you. People have their own concerns and you have yours. Sometimes you wonder why these people trust so much on the wisdom you give them when in fact you yourself can’t see yourself doing what you are saying. What an absurd truth.

A FOUL TRUTH OF EGO

By convention, we encounter people in one way or another who galvanizes our flame of irritations and anger. People, who continuously want to win everyone’s attention by their unnecessary bold and loud actions, penetrate our nerves and closing our temper to its limit. Without any direct encounter with these people, we are not friends with them, nor acquaintances – in short, we don’t talk to them only that we encounter them in our similar classes and we see their unwanted faces until the semester ends. Their presence is so unbearable that we wish them to vanish for life in any way possible.

Included in this cluster of people are those who have affiliations to some remarkable group of people or they themselves have remarkable achievements to which they want to show off the world. If not many knows about it, they articulate varied ways to vaunt it. And if they just bump into a situation when their affiliation is involved, they would try to get your attention by any means even to the most uncomfortable actions they do not hesitate to do.

We find all their ways extremely aggravating only making ourselves a sour loser. By attending and observing their actions, we make ourselves unintentionally involved, affected and self-destructed. In the long run, we make these people get what they want. They may have infuriated many but they have achieved their goal – FAME. It is a savaging idea; however, it is simply the truth.

Another simple truth would be us being included in this cluster of people. It cannot be denied that all of us, or if not, most of us in a way or another desire fame. After all, we humans are naturally political creatures. Political creatures, with this, I mean we all are always likely to want to prove advantageous than the others.

How harsh truth can be, isn’t it? In spite of that, before we are able to put logs on that flame to avoid it growing into a fire, we could always cover it with soil to put out the flame and not long shall then it be ignored or forgotten.

And before we can ignore a thing, person or feeling, we must learn to let go. Just let it go. Let these people do what they want. What benefit will we get being enraged by their actions anyway? None. Moreover, if these people notice that no one is reacting or responding to their actions, eventually they’ll stop. We can imagine how depressing it would be to put out so much effort without someone noticing right?

So that’s it. Let it go then ignore. We shouldn’t let such nonsense ruin our day or our lives. That is the truth. --,)

Books For A Better Life

LOL. I sound like some herbal TV commercials with the title. Anyway, I would like to share that I’m starting to read, er, no, technically finishing reading books from cover to cover recently. Hooray! This is just one big achievement granted that I used to never find pleasure in reading books (educational, novels and the like) unless it contains a lot of pictures or it is a requirement to get a good grade (in short, forced to read). Just this May 2008, I finished reading 3 books and I feel extremely proud and happy for myself for this.

ZORBA THE GREEK by Nikos Kazantzakis. This is the first book that I intentionally forced myself to read not because it is a requirement or anything but because I want to finish reading a book while I am still a living creature. It was one summer in my high school that the idea came. So I found the book on the shelf looking untouched for how many years then finished reading it. Aside from feeling fulfilled after reading the almost 2 inched thick book with a font of the so old generation, I felt so overwhelmed. Finally, I have finished reading a book that I personally want to read. Honestly, I don’t remember much of the details in the story maybe because I continue reading without understanding. That was how it was; after all, my goal was just to finish reading the book.haha!

CONCISE 48 LAWS OF POWER by Robert Greene. This is my favorite book in high school. Why? That is because of three things: a lot of interesting stories (most are from historical figures), the content really is so powerful and lastly, IT IS SO SHORT!

THE RULE OF FOUR by Ian Caldwell, Dustin Thomason. The most recent book I’ve read. I SO LOVE THE BOOK. The solutions of the mysteries contained in the book seem so real, though the truth is still debated by scholars on the book’s mystery (I mean the book in this book). I love the plot and the smart (maybe the adjective should be ‘symbolic’) conversations of the characters.

THE 33 STRATEGIES OF WAR by Robert Greene. I’m still reading the book. I have difficulty finding time reading the book (chaar..! feeling busy. Haha!) But almost everyday I bring the book with me so that when I’m bored, I’ll just read it. However, reading the book in very public and noisy places doesn’t work for me that much. I understand it but can’t really absorb it.

So here’s the link of the shelf of the books that I have read and still reading.

Linking the child you once were

Do you believe how powerful music can be as it penetrates to the innermost cells of your brain? I do. Surely, many instances of you having your melancholic state being intensified by a particular genre of music or adding up the wild atmosphere in a party with the loud music on air have taken place. In the same way, total change of mood by the music can happen.

At one moment, when you have nothing in particular to work on, you lie in your bed then suddenly feel the urge to listen to music, then everything in your atmosphere as well as the way your innermost feeling changes.

Unintentionally, you bump at one of your favorite Disney animated film soundtrack. As you listen to the wonderful beat of the music, you all of the sudden feel like going back in time. You are so moved that you already felt like dancing in the air, feet moving from left to right, shoulders go up and down, hands waving from one side to the other, head moving with the melody, singing the lyrics with a facial expression mimicking of that of the character who was actually singing in the scenes that are still so flawlessly crystal clear as you recall for back in time, you have been watching the same film day by day as if there were no end to it. You feel the moment as if you were really part of the scene and you are wearing a big smile on your face. Reminiscing the time when you have nothing to think about but savor each moment as how important the scene to the story is as it was to you, you begin to feel like the child back there.

Then abruptly, the jolly music ended. You can only pause, feel amazed and think that for a moment you feel ecstatic of being the child you once were. You smile, take a hold of your music player and replay the same song that caused you to be unreasonably happy.

The Words My Friends Usually Describe Me

Friends can only be the people who know you second from God for two reasons: 1. Friends are the people whom you talk to with most of the time 2. You are most comfortable around your friends and you just do whatever you want and say whatever you like without restrictions unlike when you talk to your parents where there are restricted topics. I mean there are topics you can’t just really start blabbing in front of your parents. Well, that is just my opinion.

So here are the 9 words my friends frequently use to describe me. Most of them I took from my Friendster testimonials and some from the text messages they sent me that I recorded on my notebook. I have this habit of writing down the text messages I feel like could be of use in the future especially when it has something to do with my personality. By the way, to be specific, the friends I’m talking about are my high school friends.--,)

1. Childish/bataot
Okay fine. I’m childish. I like the part of me being childish because this way I could just be carefree and selfish. So what? At least I know how to think and behave maturely in critical occasions and not the other way around.

2. Intelligent/bright/smart
They always say I’m intelligent. One teacher even complimented me saying that I always speak with sense. Astrology says people born under my sign are intelligent. I also think I’m intelligent but only supported by the fact that I had been a consistent honor student back in high school. But the thing is I’m always slow on receiving initial information. In many situations, I consider myself being left behind, confused of what is really what, while others think it is already obvious and it isn’t worth explaining. I could only sulk for being so ignorant in such situations.

3. Bugay
I am a sort of like this. It’s fun but more likely, I go beyond the limit offending people unintentionally. So I’m not so proud of this.

4. Pretty
I think a girl’s friends would typically describe her as pretty. Most probably, it is also the reason why they describe me as such.

5. Listener
Through listening, you learn a lot of things. You learn from the speaker’s ideas, experiences, and learned lessons. Besides when you’re a speaker, and when you express yourself, being listened is the best compliment you’ll ever need.

6. Sip-onon
I hate this. I don’t like being teased as such, honestly. Why do I always get colds for always more than a week or two? I protest!

7. Selosa
Am I? Well, I think I am. I get jealous for so many reasons. I can get jealous just by seeing a person given much attention than I am. I can get jealous just by seeing a person get more credit than I have. I can be jealous for so many illogical reasons.

8. Fighter
Everyone is a fighter to survive. Everyone is fighter when they are aiming at something. For some reason, my opinions can’t just be easily swayed by some other people’s opinion. And I will always believe in and fight for my ideas unless I’m proved and convinced wrong. Maybe that’s why they described me as fighter.

9. “nonsense”
This expression was not originally mine. It started at home when almost all comments in a conversation will always be preceded with the word “nonsense”. Then I carried the habit at school, until most people in school call me “nonsense”.

My Presidential Speech

Yay! Just a moment ago, I was scanning the envelopes under my bed and found this composition written last 25th July 2006. This is back when I was in fourth year. Sir Josh, our Social Studies instructor, asked us to write a speech. This speech is the piece we are to deliver assuming we will run as the President of the Philippines. I call it the presidential speech. I do not know if this is the right term really. Just correct me if I'm wrong. Well, much of the specified concerns mentioned in this piece were actually influenced by the issues of the country faced during that time. Well then, here it goes.

Citizen of the Philippines, greetings to all. Our motherland is now suffering from political, economic, educational and environmental turmoil. Our government is becoming more corrupt and not united leading to the organization of opposition groups and worst, it has become the trademark of Philippine government. Fugitive are increasing in numbers caused by extreme poverty making crimes here and there. Terrorists are being tremendously dangerous. The proliferation of unemployment brings the people into great poverty. Our economic crises have contributed its part on the recent mass poverty. The low quality and standard of education particularly in public schools results to a poor literacy rate and one major factor that affects this certain phenomenon is the improper budgeting of officials. Our environment is running uncontrollably polluted. And now, I, Haifa Carina Superioridad Baluyos, am standing here in front of you to run as the highest executive leader of the state to help everything in proper order. Let us make our motherland be proud of her self.
To graduate was my goal and be successful was my dream. All of these were achieved despite our financial difficulties. Financial matters upset me but it didn’t hinder me from achieving my dreams. I came from a broken family but the thought of such idea even built a stronger and competitive me. Even if huge problems come in my path, I could always get my way through the encouragement and motivation of the people around me.

We all have experienced the common problem and we all could surpass these things like how we dealt with the personal ones. Sometimes the encouragement and motivation of the people around us helps a lot in facing difficulties. In this matter, le’s do the same thing for them. Let our minds pause for a while and take the bigger picture of our motherland. Every honor that a Filipino brings tot his nation would make the media focus on the matter which some officials took it as a privilege to take amounts of money from the nation. And every single cent of the stolen money results to the increasing population of poor people living in squatter areas and worst, to the city highways or under the bridge. Imagine the children day and night in the streets trying to beg for money wherein suppose to be they are in school studying. And who’s to blame for such phenomenon? Logically, it’s the government. And who works the government? Definitley the leaders. And so, we could conclude that officials are responsible for the suffering of our nation. Isn’t it ironic? Doing the opposite of what you are supposed to do. Let us not be blind of such truth and let us not be deaf of such fact. Let us break that point of view which has traditionally been a cycle. We are part of this family and we all have responsibilities of taking concern with each other. Let us hear what everybody says. Let us see what everybody wants us to see. All of us people are given the privilege to possess a pair of eyes and ears by God and let us use it in its proper and effective way and for the good of everyone.
“Politics has always been dirty.” It sound like more of a cliché but lat us make and establish an administration touched with discipline and unselfishness. And as according to the former president Ramon Magsaysay, “Leadership by example.”, leaders must show the proper characters and be an example to the reforms and programs they are capable of establishing.

These are the following programs and reforms I am willing to establish in my presidency; the improvement of our foreign relations to increase the investors in our country and to give jobs to the unemployed people, and also to create strong mutual linkages with other countries. I will remove the pork barrel to prevent a huge possibility for the misuse of the money of the people and of the nation. We shall focus our attention on education; build more public schools especially to rural areas and distribute quality, up-to-date and standardized books for free. We shall produce more charity works. The strict and active functioning of our national police must be give due attention. We will create organizations concerned with the environment. We will build more infrastructures. Give land tot the landless. Our government will have a strict and systematized process concerning the audit of the money of the citizens. If one is proved to commit a crime relating with the abuse of his power, he shall be removed from his position immediately.

All of these are the reforms of my administration but our administration will see, hear and move in response to these manifestations. It is, indeed, easy to say but we will make it easy to finish if we will work hand in hand with a true and proud Filipino heart. Let us build a strong nation through unity. Thank you very much and Mabuhay.
